The official capacity figure for Preble County Jail is 70. The sheriff's Corrections page describes 60 male beds and 10 female beds. ODRC's 2025 annual inspection also lists 70 as the total actual general housing capacity and recommended capacity. The inspection reported 35 incarcerated people on November 4, 2025, while the public roster provider table showed 31 people in custody on June 24, 2026 at 11:30 AM.

Preble County Jail Contact

The jail and sheriff campus is on Preble Drive in Eaton. Use this contact point for jail information, lobby visitation registration, sheriff records payments, and questions that the online roster cannot answer. Court filings and clerk business are handled at the courthouse on East Main Street, not at the jail.

Preble County Jail Visitation

Preble County Jail uses video visitation only. The county visitation page says the jail offers onsite and offsite video visits, with family and friend contact visits not permitted. Visitors schedule through ICSolutions online or on the lobby registration computer. Onsite visits are free twice per week, while offsite visits are unlimited with a fee. Each visit is 25 minutes.

Visits may be scheduled up to two weeks ahead and at least 24 hours before the visit. Visitors can log in 10 minutes early, but that does not start the visit early. More than 15 minutes late cancels the visit automatically. Visits are recorded and may be monitored, except attorney and clergy visits.

Preble County Jail Mail

Incoming mail must use the inmate name as written on the wristband, followed by Preble County Jail and the Eaton mailing address. The incoming mail rules say mail is delivered Monday through Friday except holidays after processing. Mail is opened and inspected for money orders and contraband; legal, court, and public-official mail is opened in front of the inmate.

The money page says cash can be deposited through the lobby kiosk and is immediately credited with no fee for cash kiosk deposits. Money orders received by mail are credited to the inmate account. Personal and payroll checks are treated as property and cannot be used for commissary or bond.

Preble County Jail Booking

Booking begins when a person is arrested by the sheriff or another law-enforcement agency and delivered to Preble County Jail. Local sources support a practical sequence: book-in, property collection, wristband/name identification, account setup, medical and mental-health access, classification, housing, roster update, and court or bond processing. The roster updates every 30 minutes, but new bookings may still lag.

Property is placed in a prisoner property room locker at intake. The property rules say inmates do not have access to the storage locker after initial book-in, so phone numbers and addresses should be requested during booking if needed. At release, an officer inventories the property with the inmate present.

People who have pleaded guilty or been convicted may be charged a one-time reception fee. The jail's reception-fee page cites ORC 2929.38 and lists the local fee as $25. Prisoner reimbursement begins once a person becomes sentenced, not while the person is still pretrial.

Preble County Jail Standards

The Corrections page identifies Jail Administrator Major Andrew Blevins, six sergeant supervisors, 17 corrections officers, a full-time nurse, a contract mental-health employee, and a reimbursement coordinator. Selected inmate workers may assist with laundry, food delivery, cleaning, and other duties. Intermittent sentenced inmates may serve weekends by court order, but that status is treated as a privilege and rule violations can lead to serving the remaining sentence in full.

Ohio standards shape jail operations. OAC 5120:1-8-09 requires full-service jails to provide a daily way for inmates to report medical and mental-health requests and a grievance system for medical and mental-health treatment. ODRC's 2025 inspection found Preble County Jail compliant with 177 standards, including 53 Essential and 124 Important standards.

Preble County Jail Records

If the roster is unavailable, captcha-blocked, or no longer lists the person, use the sheriff's public-records process. The records request page links a web form for PCSO reports and records. The records request form asks for requestor name, phone, email, incident date, involved names, and comments explaining the request.

Video records have a special local fee policy. The sheriff's page says PCSO charges the actual cost of preparing a video for inspection or production: $75 per hour of video processed, capped at $750 per incident. The estimate is to be provided within five business days, and payment is due before preparation begins. That policy should not be applied to still booking photos unless the Sheriff's Office says it applies.
